Stubborn Pick ‘Em Stack - 3 Hair Pulling Discs
Our Stubborn Pick ‘Em Discs are designed as a support for those that delight in 'extraction' & and/or struggle with picking & pulling hair out. Can also be a support for those struggling with trichotillomania. After many requests for hair follicle like Pick 'Ems we have created these.
The immersive experience involves focus, digging, resistance, satisfaction & (personally speaking) sheer delight. Warning: can be hard to stop once starting grin. See videos of it in action also. Hands get a good work out, so helpful to rest from time to time. Great for mindfulness, regulation and calming.
Typically used in conjunction with tweezers. The Silicone, even after items removed, makes for a great sensory stim tool.
Not so keen that our Pick 'Ems are not re-meltable? We hear you! Our Put 'Em Clear Putty (available separately) allows you to use the contents picked out of the Pick 'Ems over and over again, creating ongoing & sustainable support. Does not feel exactly the same, however for most, definitely still satisfying! See the important reason why we won't use remeltable silicone below.
This stack comes with 3 discs : each the same, with 2 fibre style - PP & also Nylon.
Designed to mimic pulling out hair. The two materials give different levels of 'tug' or resistance when extracted. The nylon cord feels like pulling an ingrown hair out. Rubbing along the sides you can often feel the ends of the nylon, quite like hairs on a chin lol. The PP fibres, with bulb-like ends are to mimic hair follicles. Not identical, but as close as we can get. Recommend pulling from the non bulb end so you feel the resistance of the bulb as it moves through the silicone.
Each of the silicone discs contain items with purpose in mind. In addition to being pure JOY for many, there is a more serious side to this genuine sensory seeking behaviour. Picking skin & hair pulling can be a form of stimming sometimes referred to as body-focused repetitive behaviour & super common, especially for those, like me, that are neurodivergent. It can be a sensory self-regulation behaviour, stim or part of repetitive ‘loop’. It can lead to compromised skin, bald patches, risk of infection, scars, shame and distress. It can also be a challenge to stop, even when harmful. Which is why we have a focus on having a range of tools to assist in supporting this sensory need.
These are single use, however will likely surprise you as to how long they take to do. Our Put 'Em Putty is a great way to repurpose the fibres (or stones from out other variations) into the putty for foraging / continued pulling. It doe not feel exactly the same, however, for most is still satisfying.
Two reasons we elected to not use the reuseable silicone:
-
- it's colour resembles 'wee' (ick i know)
- most importantly, for safety reasons - if over heated (length heated too long or due to variance in microwave) or heated too many times it can catch on fire... We are not prepared to take that risk for anyone.
Likely not to suit those that struggle with imperfection or sensory issues with holes, as once removed the threads & stones (the other refill stack available) leave holes. Trypophobia is an aversion or repulsion to objects like honeycombs and sponges that have repetitive patterns or clusters of small holes.
We have a large range of Pick 'Ems and more on the way!
